A Sequence of Recent Events:

On November 1, Manitoba Labour and Immigration Minister Jennifer Howard stated in the Legislature that conciliation had "concluded."

On November 9, Mr. Grant Mitchell applied for expedited hearing of an unfair labour practice suit brought against the Board of Governors by Brandon University Faculty Association.  On November 16, that application was granted.  The hearing was scheduled for a time at which BUFA's lawyer, Kathy McIlroy would be unavailable.  Her request for a delay was denied.  

On November 18, BUFA requested a meeting with Premier Greg Selinger.

On November 20, BUFA sent a letter to Minister Howard expressing conern about the 'reactivation' of conciliation.

On November 21, at 11:01 a.m., BUFA received a reply from Premier Selinger's office advising that the meeting request had been denied on the grounds that such a meeting would be "inappropriate" given that we are in the midst of a labour dispute.

On November 21, at 3:52 p.m., Minister Howard faxed BUFA advising that she was ordering a vote of members on the Employer's final offer.

On November 21, at 4:34 p.m., Minister Howard faxed BUFA advising that her office considered conciliation ongoing, and urging BUFA to "make every effort to achieve a collective agreement soon" with the aid of conciliation, mediation, or binding arbitration.
