Collective Agreement 2002-2005 APPENDIX A: LETTER OF APPOINTMENT
Items to be referred to in appointment letters. Items in category A will be
included in all letters. Items in category B will be included only in those
letters where they are applicable.
Category A
- Name and address.
- Type of appointment (full-time, part-time, sessional).
- Type of appointment (term, probationary, tenured, continuing).
- Effective dates.
- Rank.
- Salary.
- Method of salary payment.
- Dates of salary payment.
Category B
- Recommended by:
- Faculty, Department and project.
- Position title.
- Workload, e.g. course name and number for sessional appointments.
- Location.
- Northern Allowance, Centre Co-ordinator Allowance, Travelling Professor
Allowance, Distance Compensation.
- Moving Allowance.
- Minimum enrolment cancellation Clause.
- Allowance termination Clause if workload changes.
- Immigration approval Clause
a) Clause re necessity of subsequent immigration clearance, for e.g.
"on a year to year basis".
- Salary Clause if contract offer made before salary settlement for
appointment after settlement.
- Salary = x subject to increase
- Salary = x not subject to increase
- Salary = Step x on the (rank) scale
- Responsible to:
a. academically
b. administratively
- Clause for shared appointments re sessionals.
- Clause for team taught course re sessionals.
- Minimum contact hour Clause.
- Restrictions on remuneration if additional contact hours are offered.
- Provisions for reduced term appointments, if such a mechanism is adopted.
Special Clauses required re:
- Workload
- Salary
- Pension
- Group Life
- Disability
- Sabbatical
Some or all may be defined in the Collective Agreement.
- Statement as to whether appointment is a post-retirement appointment.
- Clause re replacing Faculty members on leave.
- Any leave of absence provisions or special leave provisions which are part
of the offer.
- Benefit Plan eligibility.
- Sabbatical credit from previous University recognized at Brandon
University.
