OCTOBER 1, 2008

This afternoon (Oct. 1) at 3:45 the negotiators for the Brandon University Faculty Association and the Employer received a communication from Mr. John Korpesho, the mediator selected by the two Parties in this dispute.

The communication reads as follows:

"I have determined that as of 3:30 pm October 1, 2008, that the mediation process commenced on September 30, 2008 has reached an impasse.
I will remain available to the Parties until 9:00 am October 2, 2008 if they wish to continue the mediation process.
In the event that this does not occur by 9:00 am October 2, 2008, I will deem that the mediation process has broken down and as such ended."

BUFA commenced strike action against the University on September 29, 2008 at 8:00 am. The Employer imposed a lockout at 8:05 am.

BUFA represents approximately 240 full-time, part-time, and sessional employees at Brandon University - including Professors, Librarians, Instructional Associates, and Administrative Associates.
