Brandon University Faculty Association ******FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE*****OCTOBER 10, 2008 BUFA Responds To Ministers' Request For Arbitration In a statement released this afternoon, Brandon University Faculty Association (BUFA) has rejected the government's call to send the outstanding issues in the ongoing dispute at Brandon University to binding arbitration. The statement reads: "While we appreciate the concern expressed by the Ministers and the Premier, it is our view that arbitration represents an abrogation of the Parties' responsibilities to negotiate in good faith, a settlement, through the collective bargaining process. We believe that a negotiated settlement in this dispute is attainable expeditiously, but it requires the will, on the part of the Employer, to do so." Last week Minister of Labour, Nancy Allan and Minister of Advanced Education and Literacy, Diane McGifford issued statements requesting the Parties to send the issues outstanding in the dispute to binding arbitration. BUFA has been on legal strike since Monday, September 29, 2008. BUFA represents BUFA represents approximately 230 full-time, part-time, and sessional employees at Brandon University - including Professors, Librarians, Instructional Associates, and Administrative Associates. -- 30 -- For Further Information Contact: |
