BUFA Walkathon Aids Students

While on strike, members of Brandon University Faculty Association (BUFA) held a post-Thanksgiving-Day picket line "walk-a-thon" to raise money for Brandon University students experiencing financial hardship as a result of their strike action. BUFA members either donated from their strike pay, or made pledges based on the number of laps of the campus that could be completed in a 1.5 hour picketing shift. The number of contributing BUFA members is thought to have been 100%.

The sum of $2,830.00 will be presented to BUSU President Stephen Montague today, to assist students who have experienced financial hardships associated with strike action. Any remaining funds are to benefit the student academic program of BUSU's choice.

BUFA is also contributing all food remaining at the conclusion of its strike action to the BUSU Food Bank.

BUFA reached a tentative agreement in its dispute with Brandon University and its Board of Governors on October 15, to conclude a seventeen day strike.

BUFA represents approximately 240 full-time, part-time, and sessional employees at Brandon University - including Professors, Librarians, Instructional Associates, and Administrative Associates.
