Board of Governors Member Resigns in Protest
Friday, October 10, 2008
Mr. Richard Lonstrup
Chairman of BU Board of Governors
Dear Mr. Lonstrup:
It is with deep regret that I feel obliged to write this letter. For the past two weeks Brandon University Faculty Association has been engaged in a legal strike. Yet information about the seriousness of this strike or ramifications for students and faculty have not been provided to, or discussed by the entire BU Board of Governors.
Since my election to The Board as a Senate Representative, it has become clear to me that Board members have not been given sufficient information relating to university issues in order to make informed decisions, yet are then expected to vote in a responsible manner.
Such lack of information sharing and discussion demonstrates how little significance the full Board of Governors holds. Therefore, I cannot in good faith remain a member of Brandon University's Board of Governors.
Please accept my resignation as a Board of Governors member effective immediately.
Thank You
Lorraine Mayer
