September 30 is a time to remember, honour, and reflect — but reconciliation cannot end with remembrance. It calls on all of us to take meaningful action.
As part of the labour movement, we as BUFA members have an important role to play in building workplaces and unions grounded in respect, inclusion, and solidarity. That means standing alongside Indigenous workers and communities, confronting anti-Indigenous racism, listening to Indigenous voices, and taking concrete steps toward reconciliation.
On the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, we recognize the Survivors of residential schools, honour the children who never came home, and acknowledge the lasting impacts of colonialism on Indigenous families, communities, and generations. And we must do more.
Remembering is important. What we do with that knowledge matters too.
